Open 8 Genetics originated in 2011 with the purchase of cows from Sitz Angus, Coleman Angus, Mytty Angus and the Oxbow Ranch. We purchased cows from these particular breeders because of their emphasis on breeding quality females.
It is our belief that you build “Maternal Power in a Pedigree”. Our philosophy is that if you stack a pedigree with several generations of bulls with time tested maternal traits, you can go any direction with how you breed that cow, because you have built a solid maternal foundation.
Open 8 Genetics was started when good friends decided to pursue a business opportunity with the same vision in mind.
“They know the value of genetics designed for ranchers.”

History
The Wangs homesteaded near Ollie, MT, north of Baker, in the early 1900s. We’ve been running cows and ranching ever since. An opportunity arose in the summer of 2017, allowing us to move the Open 8 Genetics operation from Charlo, MT, north of Missoula, to Powderville, north of Broadus. Danny and Dani Krantz took a leap of faith and moved their family there in the fall of 2017.
Darin and Nicole Buerkle have managed the ranch in Baker since 1999, with the Buerkle roots tracing back to the early 1900s near Plevna. Darin selects the matings in Baker and keeps the entire herd enrolled in the American Simmental Association’s Herdbook.
